How to Hook Up a Blue-Ray DVD Player

A Blu-ray player reproduces the audio and video signals on high-definition multimedia discs which are the same size as a DVD. Since the Blu-ray player can transmit multi-channel audio--as well as hd video--the contacts tend to be more extensive on the rear of the component, but no longer complicated than the usual standard DVD player. Use component cables for the video link with an AV receiver and 1/4-inch audio cables to connect the various sound channels.

Connect the red, green and blue plugs. Connect them on each end of the component cable from the matching video out jacks on the Blu-ray player to the video inputs on the rear of an AV receiver. Insert the 1/4-inch plug on an audio cable to the jacks labeled front left and right; rear left and right; and center. Connect another end of every cable to its corresponding input jack labeled on the AV receiver. Connect a 1/4-inch audio cable from the Blu-ray player's sub-woofer output jack. Connect it straight to a powered sub, or the sub input jack on the rear of the receiver. Plug in the electrical cords for the Blu-ray player, receiver and sub-woofer.
